SHE STRIKERS

Breaking Barriers and Building Pathways for Girls in Football

She Strikers is a pioneering initiative from SA Foundation, designed to open doors for girls and young women in football from the earliest stages of their lives. While football is the world’s game, opportunities for females—whether as players, coaches, referees, or leaders—remain limited and unevenly distributed. She Strikers is here to change that.

We don’t just introduce girls to the joy of playing football; we also work to dismantle the barriers that have historically kept women and girls from fully participating in the sport. By creating safe, supportive, and inclusive spaces, we nurture talent, boost confidence, and show young women that there is a place for them in every part of football—on the pitch, in the dugout, at the whistle, and beyond.

Football has long been dominated by men, leaving many girls with fewer opportunities to play, fewer role models to look up to, and limited pathways to progress. In too many communities, girls are still told that football is “not for them.” This lack of access not only stifles potential talent but also denies young women the personal growth, health benefits, and life skills that come from sport.

Through our work at SA Foundation, we saw the gap firsthand: girls with a passion for the game but no opportunities to play or progress. She Strikers was born to fill that gap—empowering girls to dream big, build resilience, and step into leadership roles within football and beyond.

We introduce girls to football at a young age, ensuring they feel welcome, supported, and encouraged to take part.

Early Access & Inclusion

Beyond playing, we provide routes into coaching, refereeing, and leadership roles—areas where women are still underrepresented.

Pathway Development

Our female coaches and leaders bring lived experience and expertise, inspiring participants to believe in what’s possible.

Mentorship & Role Models

We create a culture of belonging, where girls can grow in confidence, build friendships, and strengthen their communities.
